On Sunday the Smyrna Bugs played in the May Madness 10U AAA Baseball Tournament.  The weekend had seen the Bugs go 1-1, with Steven hitting his first home run of 2010 on Sunday morning.

At 4:30pm the Bugs had a Chapel service which heard the quotes of Joseph (Genesis 37), Lou Holtz and Coach Chris.  Families were also introduced to Billy Wheeler, LifePoint Sports Chaplin.  Accountability, honesty and trustworthy were key words that each parent, coach and player were challenged to practice.

The Bugs had a four-hour wait for the semi-final game.  The semi-final game was against the hard-hitting RCBC Stingers from Alabama.  Gresham was starting pitcher and went three hard innings.  Supported by a home run by Luke and a lot of base hits by the Bugs, we won the opportunity to play in the championship.

The Championship was against Brentwood Power who have been in existence as long as the Bugs.  And like the Bugs, have continually shown up in Sunday tournaments.  They always hit the ball hard and show team spirit.

Bugs pitchers were worn down from the 90 degree weather and humidity of the semi-final game. It did not take long for the tiredness to show up.  Working to tie the game in the third, the Bugs equaled the Power at 4-4.  However in the bottom of the fourth the Bugs arms tired and Power’s bats came alive. Scoring several runs in the fourth and fifth, the Brentwood Power came out on top.

The Bugs walked away winners anyway seeing two teammates go yard, having experienced a couple of tough games and ending the weekend 3-2.  I will close with one of the most athletic moves of the weekend.  This is Patrick doing his famous hook-slide to score the go ahead run on Saturday.  Enjoy.
