Here are some brief updates from my friend Jeff Palmer at Baptist Global Response (BGR) regarding the situation in Haiti:

1. BGR USA has coordinated a three (3) component assessment team heading toHaiti. The main one is a combo of BGR, North American Mission Board, and State Disaster Relief. The second is the Florida Baptist Convention who has strong ties/work in Haiti. The third is an IMB team from another country who speaks the language. We are hoping that this three-pronged approach will give us a clear picture of how Southern Baptists can best respond to this tragedy and maximize the possibility of having a quicker response to those in need.

2. We have had a good response in donations. Over USD $100,000 has
been received through on-line gifts.

3. We are directing interested donors to the BGR website for updates and
info. If you haven’t visited our site and seen updates, you can see it at: <> .

4. Gordon Fort, Vice President of the International Mission Board of the
SBC, has appealed for aid to Southern Baptists in the USA by directing them
to BGR. BGR is the IMB’s official partners for international relief and
development efforts. You can view his appeal at:

For those you you who would like to get involved in the Haiti response, we
would ask you to:

1. Pray. Pray for the people of Haiti. About 45,000 dead is now the official
estimate with up to 3 million needing assistance with the basics: water,
food and shelter. Pray also for those going to help. Pray for wisdom and
knowledge as to how to best respond. Pray for safety of those going. Pray
that the people of Haiti will have their eyes turned towards God even in the
midst of their suffering.

2. Give. If God would lead you or your group to give, it can be through
Baptist Global Response. Giving options through BGR can be found at:
http://www.gobgr <http://www.gobgr> . There is a direct giving option on our
homepage. One hundred percent of what you give will go towards direct
assistance. BGR takes no administration or travel/logistics funds out of
your gifts.

Please keep track of opportunities to serve in Haiti from the BGR website.

Thank you for your friendship and partnership.
Please pray for Haiti.
