Today I will say goodbye to a friend, whom, without knowing it, inspired me every time I saw her. She lost her battle with cancer last week. Goodbye to a lady who was strong. Who always had a smile and hug for everyone. A lady who never complained or seemed to be in a battle for life.

Her name, Jaci Franklin. She will be buried tomorrow with a crowd of friends around her mourning her loss. This crowd will not only be ‘paying their respects’ but most will be wishing they had Jaci’s view on life. We all need her spirit.

Jaci began to decline over the last few months. She lost weight and sometimes had trouble walking. Yet, in the hallways of church or as she would ride by our house and when you would see her at her son’s ballgames…Jaci was always smiling and positive. She valued life. She understood the value of a day, the value of a smile, the value of an encouraging word to someone else.

I pray that Jaci’s life will always be an example, a reminder to make a stronger effort to smile and encourage. To value a day and not complain. To be the shining light to others lives as she was for so many.

Jaci, you live on through the smiles and hugs of your friends. Your family is a blessing to us and God placed you in our lives to show his unconditional love. Thank you for your life-long example of His smile!
