The past few days have been difficult on our family.  On August 28, Lisa’s Father has surgery to remove cancer from the right side of his face.  He remained in the hospital for 7 days as he healed from the surgery.  When he returned home on September 5 he noticed his wife did not feel very good.  He recommended she go to the doctor.  She did and stayed in hospital for double pneumonia until September 11.

When she returned home she struggled to recover.  So on September 14 she returned to the hospital for a three-day stay and they sent her home.  The four sisters decided to take turns staying with their parents to help them recover.  Lisa’s day was on Friday, Sept. 19.

At 4:30pm on Friday, September 19, Mamaw suffered a stroke.  She was rushed to Elizabethtown Hospital where she remains indefinitely.  She has lost use of her left side, unable to even look to the left.  She has difficulty speaking and can only lay in bed.  The next few days are critical on the recover and will determine what the next steps will be.

Papaw continues to recover at home, with daily visits to the hospital to visit Mamaw.  On Thursday he begins his radiation for five days a week, for five weeks..  Lisa remains by Mamaw’s side 24/7 reading to her, trying to comfort her and communicate with doctors.

I am thankful for the wonderful friends, neighbors and Small Group members who have stood by our side, who have offered food, beds, help with school, cleaning, rides, and all the things that have to happen in families.  LIfe is tough; sometimes very grim.  Only eased by the love of others and the outpouring of care from friends.   As Rick Warren has said in Purpose Driven Life, “Either you are in one now, you’re just coming out of one, or you’re getting ready to go into another one.”

The journey of life continues…
