We have a big week in Smyrna.  This week the Major League Baseball owners and managers are conducting their winter meetings in Nashville.  Not a big deal to most people.  However, this past summer I had the privilege to meet the Chaplin of the New York Mets while we were leading The Charlie Mitchell Baseball Clinic, Fielder’s Choice.  His name is Cali and has become a friend who shares my passion for baseball and ministry.

Cali serves full time with Baseball Chapel <click to learn more and see MLB players testimonies).  He also works in Mexico and Central America to share Christ via baseball academies and camps.  This week he arrived in Smyrna a couple of days early to worship at FBC Smyrna and spend some time with others from the Fielder’s Choice.  On Monday he spoke to the Stewarts Creek Middle School baseball, softball and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  He shared how some of the richest athletes may not be the happiest ones and how to keep focus no matter where God leads you. We will meet today about a Fielder’s Choice Baseball Clinic for 2008 in Mexico (and maybe see some MLB managers and players.  J).

Also this week, TODAY, Vince Young will be visiting Stewarts Creek Middle School with the “Take a NFL player to School” project.  A student entered an essay contest stating why an NFL player should go to school with him/her.  Well today the SCMS will be a very unique place!  Thanks NFL for making this happen.

There you have it MLB and NFL coming to our small town!  WOW
