After attending a Small Group Training event where I learned about Neighborhood ministry/outreach/life, I decided to enlist a few families to test what we heard.  I had an enlistment lunch with three families to walk them through what we wanted to do.  Basically:

1.  give them a list of other members/visitors from our church that live close to them,

2.  Ask them to go by and invite at least 4 of the families to a cookout at their house in October.

3.  At the cookout plan a neighborhood event for October or November to get to know neighbors and be the presence of Jesus in their Neighborhood.

4.  Have a meal with the 4 families in November to evaluate the October event and plan a December event.

All three families agreed to give it a try but I had not heard back from them until this week.  There is a chili-cookoff  (with inflatable slides and jumps for the kids) planned for one neighborhood with plans for a re-gifting event in November.  There is a cookout planned in another neighborhood at a families home/garage.  The third couple had a cookout with unchurched neighbors and have started a weekly meeting with the couples who attended.   I also found out that another neighborhood is having a Pumpkin Carve and Trick-or-Treat night as a subdivision complete with games and prizes for the entire family.

You never know what God will do if you just make your self, family, home available.  What could you do for your neighborhood?  It is not too late to get a few other Christ-followers together and plan something for your area.  Some ideas are cookouts, golf tournament, Pumpkin Carve, hot chocolate night, bonfire, dessert fellowship, or a Christmas open house.

Tune in next week as we hear and learn from other Neighborhood events.
